Description and Impact:
¬ The WEF has signed a new MOU with Vimukti Sanstha to provide Vocation training to girls from slums of Jaipur (Rajasthan) India.
¬ WEF is fully funding the vocational skill training project by a grant of $10,000. ¬ This grant will support 26 girls to pursue a vocational training followed by an internship to gain practical experience. The Worldwide Education Fund of the Dallas Foundation (WEF) is collaborating with Edu-Girls, and Vimukti Sanstha to provide scholarships to deserving girls who want to pursue vocational training courses. The objective of this program is to make these girls financially independent. WEF has provided $ 10,000 to Edu-Girls for this vocational skill training project.
26 girls will be provided with vocational training and transportation. Most of the students at Vimukti Sanstha are from minority communities and their average family income is less than Rs 8,350 ($ 121/-) monthly for an average family size of 5. Most girls after completion of school are often forced to marry or take up low paying jobs by their parents because of their financial situation. Since they do not have any skill, it is not possible for them to earn a decent living.
Vimukti has identified courses like Beautician, Nursery Teachers Training, Apparel Design, etc for this initiative. The girls are counseled, their aptitude assessed jointly by Vimukti and the training institute; the girls are then admitted and supported under these various programs. The organization will ensure that these girls are part of the workforce, making a steady income after completion of their respective courses. The aim of this project is to enable these girls to break the cycle of generational poverty by providing them with the basic skill sets. They can grow and flourish in these skills, which will also provide them a respectable source of income.
